Gaming Category Information

I began my gaming journey via the family Commodore Vic-20, then later with my own C-64 and Amiga A600. These systems kept my attention until I moved up to PCs around the Windows MS-DOS Pre-Windows 95 era, which means I never really got into the console gaming market in a big way.

My parents spent a significant amount of time sharing my early gaming experiences, and this really helped foster my interests. I discovered racing games and space games for the first time, and those are still my main genres of interest to this day.

These days I use gaming to try to escape from the pressures of real life. I also occasionally upload or stream gameplay to YouTube and Twitch, and rather than doing this to instruct others of the best way to play, I do it because of the social interaction with viewers and other gamers.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus Impressions

The game is beautiful in a very strange way that is difficult to put into words, because the first time that you see a town draped in colorful banners and see soldiers in shiny uniforms marching along in perfect lines, it’s almost too easy to overlook the fact that those are Swastikas and Schutzstaffel insignia. The design team did a superb job mixing Americana with the emblems and atmosphere of an occupying Nazi force, just as they did with the war-torn cities and run-down abandoned buildings… Continue reading

Elite Journal: Walking back from the Abyss

Starting over in this vast universe by turning back the clock is something many of us would like to do, but the facts are, no matter how close you come to the Black Hole, time only marches forwards. While it may have made life less complicated, losing my ship and finding myself back in the Sidewinder certainly didn’t make things easier, but as I record this entry, I already find myself back in the fight. Another World Walkthrough

I’m trying really hard to get my groove back, and part of that has been going back into my history and playing a few retro games occasionally. Another World is a game I first completed on the Commodore Amiga A600, and one I consider to be one of the best games of all-time. In the video within this post you can see a complete playthrough of the 15th anniversary edition of Another World (also known as ‘Out of This World’ and ‘Outer World’ on some platforms). This anniversary edition had quite a few graphical upgrades, but still held onto the retro graphics feel in a very pleasing way. I still absolutely adore it!

If you never intend to play this game yourself, or you need help getting past a puzzle, check it out… Continue reading

Elite Journal: The Lost Stars

Following the completion of the 3302 Galactic Nebula Expedition, I very slowly made my way across the galaxy towards my plotted route to Beagle Point.

After the discoveries of a number of water world’s on-route, I used a series of Neutron stars to speed up my travel. I got all the way to TEQUIA BP-A D913 before things went bad… Continue reading
